Hathaway Approached For Les Miserables?

She's a possible Fantine.... With Hugh Jackman committed to Tom Hooper's new movie musical take on Les Miserables, he's apparently been suggesting ideas for who else could feature in the film, with Anne Hathaway at the top of the wish list for Fantine. Broadway World is reporting (via the keen-eyed troopers at The Playlist) that Jackman has been aiming to get Hathaway on board for a while now, logically figuring that her name recognition and warbling ability will help boost the movie's fortunes. Hathaway, of course, has proved several times that she can sing, performing on stage with Jackman when he hosted the 2009 Oscar ceremony and even belting out Fantine's most famous ditty, On My Own, while co-hosting this year's event, with the song aimed comically at Jackman. While she doesn't have the biggest role in the musical, the Fantine character is one of the most crucial, being the troubled mother of heroine Cosette. The story, set in early 19th century France, follows Jean Valjean (Jackman's assumed starring role) as he aims for redemption in his life, finding it among prostitutes, factory workers and rebellious students. All the while, he's pursued by the driven lawman Javert. Even though Hooper is confirmed as director and the likely delay to The Wolverine's shooting schedule means Jackman is going to be available, everything else about Les Miserables is still floating in the land of rumours. But with filming expected before the end of the year, we should start hearing actual news on the project soon enough...

Weekend Receipts: The Assistance Stays Afloat as Hurricane Irene Does Damage in the Box Office

New Yorkers might have been left not impressed through the magnitude of Hurricane Irene (less folks within the less fortunate metropolitan areas in her own path, let’s remember), however the much-over-blown weather event made indubitable mark elsewhere: completely across the nation in sunny Hollywood, where studio executives were likely cursing the title “Irene” because the box office tallies folded in. With 100s of theaters shut lower over the New England because of hurricane stress and ticket purchase deficits believed at $25 million, just how much did new releases Colombiana, Don’t Hesitate from the Dark, and Our Idiot Brother have the impact of Irene? 1. The Assistance Gross: $14,333,000 ($96,630,000) Screens: 2,778 (PSA: $5,159) Days: 3 (change: -28.4%) Tate Taylor’s adaptation The Assistance stored your hands on the main slot in the box office for that second week consecutively, because of strong person to person. (As well as in its third week, it’s already zoomed in front of poor Cowboys & Aliens in domestic box office.) Would this have still happened if New England urban-residents hadn’t been otherwise indisposed by Irene? Maybe. Colombiana also had the older, over-25 female demographic (as well as an passionate A- audience CinemaScore rating), squeaking out another place finish despite less strong forecasts… 2. Colombiana Gross: $10,300,000 (new) Screens: 2,614 (PSA: $3,940) Days: 1 … yet between your lackluster reviews, the lower theater count, along with a advertising campaign that managed to get to be yet another shoot ‘em up action movie (so it is, but nonetheless), Colombiana didn’t meet its potential. I am talking about, seriously, people — Zoe Saldana with semi-automatic guns and revealing clothes must have gained a lot more than $10.3M, but, just like The Assistance, person to person may help it recover in the second week publish-Irene. Obviously, there’s the problem of competition from in a few days’s other lady spy thriller starring a hot-bodied fan favorite — Helen Mirren within the Debt. But let’s not also overlook a few days ago’s rare triumph: Movies brought by minority female entertainers occupy the #1 and #2 slots, which’s worth honoring. 3. Don’t Hesitate from the Dark Gross: $8,689,000 (new) Screens: 2,760 (PSA: $3,148) Days: 1 Mediocre reviews also influenced the most recent offering from Guillermo del Toro, who created and co-authored the little one-oriented horror pic Don’t Hesitate from the Dark. Aaaaand then there’s the truth that the film, starring newcomer Bailee Madison and Katie Holmes, is definitely an R-ranked children’s pic too frightening because of its intended audience and too tame for those of sufficient age to purchase a ticket. 4. Rise from the Planet from the Apes Gross: $8,650,000 ($148,456,000) Screens: 3,374 (PSA: $2,564) Days: 4 (change: -46.3%) Apes rose… after which it fell, towards the tune of the whopping 46.3 % fall off. Ouch. Still, the primate reboot has raked in $148M ($271M worldwide) in the four-week run, overall the summer time having a respectable take. Time to begin the follow up! 5. Our Idiot Brother Gross: $6,588,000 (new) Screens: 2,555 (PSA: $2,578) Days: 1 It’s tough to say if the Paul Rudd-as-smart fool comedy would’ve worked out far better on the normal late-summer time weekend sans national calamity, nevertheless its $2,578 per-screen average (like a new film in wide release) states, most likely not. Or possibly if there’d been no Irene, all individuals not impressed New Yorkers might have take their finish around the globe prep money into being not impressed through the New You are able to-set pic, which gained a meh-level C- CinemaScore? We’ll don't know. (But most likely.) [Amounts via Box Office Guru]

Hugh Jackman Explains His Futuristic Robot Boxing Movie Real Steel In This New Featurette

After seeing the unintentionally hilarious first trailer for Real Steel this June, we laughed until we cried cyborg boxer-sized tears inside Movieline HQ. After all, it used every clich in the book to advertise an earnest drama about a washed-up boxer (Hugh Jackman) who pours all of his lost fighting ambitions into a robot that he coaches Rocky-style towards a futuristic championship. Lucky for us, DreamWorks has released a featurette in which Jackman and director Shawn Levy more effectively pitch their dystopian robo redemption movie. Take a look. Sugar Ray Leonard’s participation in the animatronic fight sequences gives Real Steel some legitimacy, right? Even if Hugh Jackman, robot controller in hand, just ends up looking like some video game-crazed psychopath freaking out after his in-ring surrogate loses a round. Are you sold after seeing this featurette? Half-sold? Quarter-sold? And more importantly, do you think DreamWorks jumped the gun on possibly enlisting a screenwriter for the sequel? Real Steel, which also stars Evangeline Lilly and Dakota Goyo, is due in theaters October 7. [SlashFilm]

Emmys 2011: 'Dexter's' Julia Stiles States Murder Moments Were Remarkably Enjoyable (Q&A)

Showtime's Dexter is 3-for-4 if this involves scoring Emmy nominations for guest star inside a drama series. Jimmy Smits acquired a nom for his portrayal of Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado in season three, and John Lithgow required home the statuette this past year for his portrayal from the chilling Trinity Killer. This year, Julia Stiles boarded the series in regards to a Miami serial killer-with-a-cause as Lumen, a broken rape victim free of abduction by Dexter (Michael C. Hall). Stiles states she read lots of literature to effectively take part in the victim, whom Dexter ultimately transforms right into a revenge killer.our editor recommends'Dexter' Propagates His Wings in Season 6'Dexter': Does the Serial Killer 'Serve a Greater Purpose'? (Video)Emmys 2011: 'Dexter's' Michael C. Hall Remembers Emmy Nomination with Carmageddon PreparationRelated Subjects•Emmys The Hollywood Reporter: Just how much are you aware about Lumen or her story arc whenever you required the role? Julia Stiles: I really understood hardly any. I met with producer John Goldwyn, and that he provided the broad strokes by what the arc from the character could be. Used to do request basically would finish up killing anybody, and that he stated yes. At that time, I made the decision to get it done. He explained that after you meet her the very first time, she's been wronged. I had been interested in how she'd turn on. The revenge some of it is exactly what intrigued me. PHOTOS: 2011 Emmy Nominations THR: The truth that Lumen ultimately reached kill someone is exactly what sealed the offer that you should go ahead and take part? Stiles: Yes, the concept that she wasn't only the victim. I had been really excited by the concept that she'd engage in Dexter's secret existence, instead of about the outdoors from it like many of the other figures. THR: How familiar had you been using the series in front of your audition? Stiles: I had been a large fan. I'd seen season four with John Lithgow, which's what got me hooked. I Quickly returned and viewed right from the start. PHOTOS: David Strick's 2011 Emmy Nominees Portraits of 'Dexter' and much more THR: Following Lithgow's Emmy-winning turn two seasons ago, have you feel particular pressure to provide another award-winning guest arc? Stiles: Absolutely! My one hesitation was that his footwear are large ones to fill. My savior is the fact that I'm a woman which my character was quite different from his. I a minimum of encouraged myself with this idea. Basically thought an excessive amount of about how exactly great he was and just how much the group of followers really taken care of immediately his work, I could have been paralyzed. I attempted to pay attention to the variations. THR: That which was probably the most challenging facet of playing a victim-switched-revenge killer like Lumen? Stiles: I never think about myself being an actor who takes work home together, however i was surprised, especially toward the finish of year -- around episode 10 -- when a few of the particulars of the items Lumen had experienced grew to become really harrowing, and that i began to understand it was affecting me outdoors of labor. One scene particularly, in episode 10, once the detectives have discovered Dvd disks showing what is happening towards the sufferers -- it had been really dark. It managed to get harder that i can sleep. VIDEO: 'Dexter's' Michael C. Hall to Curious Fans: 'You Don't Need to know' What's Approaching THR: What have you find out about yourself playing Lumen? Stiles: I had been amazed at just how much I loved the kill moments and also the sacredness of these. As keen on the show, I felt very fortunate to take part in them. THR: How have you get ready for the role? Stiles: Similarly, it had been hard to prepare because I couldn't see a lot of where it had been going whenever we first began the growing season. The particulars of the items she'd experienced were vital in my experience exactly what she'd experienced prior to the attack and abduction was irrelevant because she grew to become someone different. I met using the authors a great deal and grilled them for particulars by what she'd experienced -- the physical connection with her trauma -- because that will affect her behavior when you initially meet her. I just read a great deal about trauma sufferers and rape sufferers, however for me, which was very intellectual, and that i wanted so that it is more visceral and emotional. I needed to use my imagination a great deal, which was pretty harrowing. I needed to complete the smoothness justice, when it comes to a realistic look at how she was affected and also to justify her revenge later. STORY: Julia Stiles' First Nom 'Icing on Cake' After 'Dexter' Guest Star Gig THR: Was there whatever you introduced for the reason that the authors integrated into the script? Stiles: There is lots of discussion later because the relationship between Dexter and Lumen grew to become more intimate. The greatest question was whether Lumen was ready for just about any kind of closeness having a guy. THR: Had you been surprised that Lumen made it? Stiles: Not just was I truly surprised that they made it, however i was surprised that they wound up distancing herself from Dexter. The tradition on the program is when you get too near to Dexter, he's reached kill you. THR: Could Lumen ever return? Stiles: I've no clue, only because I don't determine if it seems sensible for that show. It's from my hands. Therefore we'll see. THR: It is possible to scene that sticks out most whenever you consider your Dexter experience? Stiles: Within the kill room, when she first reaches place the knife in. Which was really special. There is additionally a nice moment of collaboration in which the set designers had set up pictures of all of the other sufferers about the wall, and that i remember telling the director which i felt like it was vital that Lumen acknowledge another women and state that it had been on their behalf, too. We did another shot of this, also it wound up within the final edit, that we really was pleased about. It's an excellent illustration of how collaborative the show is and such a nice atmosphere it's to operate in. Related Subjects Emmy Honours Dexter Julia Stiles Michael C. Hall Emmys 2011

Bachelor Pad's Chris Harrison Calls Kasey the Godfather of the House

Kasey Kahl This week's episode of Bachelor Pad showed that while some contestants will do anything for money, some will give up everything for love. Host Chris Harrison talks to TVGuide.com about Ames' grand exit to be with Jackie, his new love who was eliminated at the end of the episode. Plus: Harrison explains a component to the challenge viewers didn't see, how Vienna tried to stage a walkout and why next week's challenge is both the funniest and saddest in Bachelor history. How did they get the paint in those eggs?Chris Harrison: The award goes to our art department. I think they poked tiny holes in them and, with a syringe, shot it in. Is Bachelor Pad on your Watchlist? Add it and your other favorites now and never miss an episode Why didn't everyone just aim for someone in the middle which gives you with a better chance of hitting someone?Harrison: You couldn't just throw. Every time they walked out I asked the question and they had to non-verbally answer with the number of who they were going for. I answered back to be clear because if you threw the egg and it hit somebody other than [the number they held up with their fingers] it didn't count. You announced that two women would be eliminated this week. Was that change made to keep Jake in the house?Harrison: The plan is never set. We have an idea of how we want it to go, but until you see how things are going and you see how people are acting and how the game is playing out, then those twists and turns are added. They're definitely not last-minute, like: Oh, Jake's about to leave, let's do this. You can't change the game to that degree. But as we see things that might happen a week in advance or several days in advance, we can change the script a bit and change the game a bit as long as we stick to our rules and everyone has an equal chance to win. They know that anything can happen at any time. VIDEO: Bachelor Pad's Graham Bunn dishes on his partnership with Michelle Money Were you taken aback by Vienna claiming that the show was "cheating?" Harrison: You can play the victim all you want ... but if you're going to start accusing the show I'm not going to stand for it. Who's keeping you here? .That's why when she said that, I said, "If you don't like it, then leave." Literally, she was trying to have this coup d'etat and stage a walkout. ... it's not the last temper tantrum that a houseguest will have this season. Are you surprised she still refuses to speak to Jake?Harrison: I'm surprised overall that she just won't let it go and she just won't bury the hatchet. In her defense, I think she's acting out of emotion, and I don't think she's taking under consideration the public perception of her. She has to realize she's on a show and even if you don't want this closure with Jake, when he comes up to you five times and you diss him like that, it's going to be perceived pretty badly. Bachelor Pad's Chris Harrison: Jake giving Vienna the immunity rose was "genuinely stupid" What about Kasey's game moves this week?Harrison: It's impressive how he's the Godfather of the house right now. It's funny how Vienna thinks she's really a part of it too, but she's really not. She doesn't realize how much Kasey is really the one in control of this game, at least up until this point. He's played it beautifully, I have to say. Did you expect Gia to leave the show?Harrison: That got out of hand so quickly and I have no idea how she went from zero to I'm leaving. She got caught ... trying to strategize and break up Kasey and Vienna, and then when Graham and Kasey played the game better than her, she got pissed, upset, her feelings got hurt and she left. I think it was more, "I'm about to be voted out so instead of losing, I quit." How incredible was Ames' exit?Harrison: That was one of the greatest moves I've seen in Bachelor history. Ames showed that, "I don't need this, it's not going to change my life that much, but leaving here with my dignity and with my love is more important." It was a storybook moment only Ames [could do], it was a beautiful moment and funny to see the cast applauding. What can you say about next week?Harrison: Next week is synchronized swimming and it's the funniest, saddest moment in Bachelor history. We have a couple of familiar faces come in and judge and we also have some pros. To see the guys in a synchronized swimming outfit is wrong in so many ways. Some of those Speedos were a little more see-through then they should've been -there's not a lot left to the imagination.
